Richard Bastian How do you say goodbye when there was no chance to say goodbye. Ryan has taken this passing pretty hard. It has brought up a lot of memories of his Dad, and some regrets. We have been finishing the school year and with the semester ending Ryan is in charge of basically building this car they have designed. Richard came into town probably only 3 weeks ago and we couldn't find a way to get to see him. Of course there was no way to know it would be our last opportunity to see him. There was a similar regret when Ryan's father passed away.
Uncle Richard was a large part of Ryan's life. He told me that he was always there, he lived a few streets away and attended almost everything that was going on. He told me he remembered when he was just a little kid, Uncle Richard would take him to the store by himself just to get him some candy. He said that he was the best storyteller there was. He remembered every detail and got right into the stories and brought you there with him. Ryan says that is one reason Sid is such a good story teller, he was told those stories by Uncle Richard. There was so much more to this man. I wish that I had gotten to know him a little better too.
Richard, we love you, you will be missed!

I'm so sorry for Ryan and for you as well. It's so hard to lose someone unexpectedly . . . I have similar regrets about my stepfather who passed away a few years ago.
I hope your family is able to be at peace with everything.
Love and hugs.
What a hard thing to go through before the Holidays. I'm so sorry for you and Ryan, I just want to give you both a big hug! I will certainly keep Ryan's family and both of you in my prayers. Although the passing of someone we love is so hard, the knowledge that we have is such a comfort. Hang in there! Love you both. (K...don't know Ryan so much, but I love you and he loves you so I guess in turn, I love him...right?).
That is a great post! The funeral was really hard for Dan and I just because a flood of memories of Barry came over us and we balled throughout the whole thing. We too have a bit of regret with Richard's passing, but Dan and I decided to bury those feelings with him and remember all of the good things and fun times we had with him. Most importantly we felt the spirit very strong that day and it was very comforting to both of us.
Thank you for the pic and the feelings. It's interesting, I had the same happen to me, meaning it made me miss Dad (Barry) all over again. I wish I was closer to family so we could all just have a big hug. I miss ya'all a lot tonight. I don't know if I will every stop being homesick. Love you!!!!!!!!!
Regret is a normal feeling after someone's passing. Our thoughts are with you and especially Ryan as you work through this.
