Spaghetti anyone?

I am a little embarrassed to say this, but I am not a good cook.
When I first married Ryan I attempted to make a few things, including Macaroni to which Ryan politely added cheese (or anything for that matter) that would make my dishes taste better. After a few of those incidences I decided that I was not the cook I thought I was and I would try again when I had kids. Since then we have just lived on Chicken and potatoes, Hamburger helper, take out and zone bars.
Well I am happy to report that for one of my new years resolutions I was going to start cooking for my little family. I am tired of the expenses of going out. I hate that we live off of processed foods, the ones out of boxes anyway, and its high time I tackle this deal.

I am happy to report that I made a mean dish of spaghetti and meat balls tonight. Real meatballs that I baked in the oven. I even went out on a limb and added tomatoes to my sauce. Homemade sauce thats right, I don't mean to brag.
Ryan loved it. The boys loved it. They ate it all up and I had the most wonderful time sitting down with my family with a dish that I made from, well, not from a box.
The last push and motivation really came from my sweet sister who told me that when I quit depending on a box, then maybe I would learn how to cook...
She was right. I am going to put my awesome multi-tasking skills to work now in addition to my awesome cooking skills and tonight who knows, maybe I will even get our meal made in under 2 hours.
At this point anything can happen, the sky is the limit!!

You rock! Congrats Whit. We knew you had it in you. Christi will love sharing her similar experiences with you. When Christi and I were first dating she tried to make me some instant pancakes. They were "just add water". She mixed pretty well but the frying part was a bit of a disaster. That told me a lot right away. She now makes the greatest meals for our family. Keep your momentum going!

J-P is right I was a disaster in the kitchen, but now I love to cook. Once you get comfortable doing it, you want to do more. Not to mention the sheer satisfaction you get from watching others enjoy it!
I'm so impressed with your first meal, pulling out all the stops with your own sauce and all! Not too shabby! Keep up the good work. When we come to visit you'll have to whip a little something, something for us! Another suggestion that is super and great for kids is Deliciously Deceptive. I use it almost everyday! Like J-P says, You ROCK!

Homemade sauce, eh? You are ambitious. I am more of a semi-homemade type of cook because of the time that is involved to cook a fully homemade meal. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to hear what you make next...yeah, you've moved on from brownies being "your" thing.

I am giving you a standing ovation right now - way to go!! Cooking is a beast, no? I love to cook, but I'm still not very good at it. I sometimes have my streak of genius, but not often. Trust me. When I see you I'll give you some simple recipes to try - you'll only get better!

*Note - I said "when" I see you, not "if"....

Funny that I would read this now... I totally know what you mean. In-fact I told Kris just the other day. I just don't have the confidence to cook and I screw up what I used to make just fine. I told him I wanted cooking lessons for mothers day. about 10 min after I told him that I totally screwed dinner up, so not planned! I'm really trying with the dinner thing! Way to go, I'm soooo impressed!
