This holiday is one of my most favorite of all holidays. Not specifically for any memory that it reminds me of, or because I have extra fun on this holiday, but I think it is because of the meaning of it all. I have always had so much respect, pride and love for this Country. I get very emotional when I think about what people have sacrificed for the wonderful life that I have and the freedoms that I enjoy.
One of the many things that comes to my mind when talking about the fourth of July is a class that I took in college that was called American Civilization. The professor of that class also had a lot of pride for this Country and he took a lot of time to teach us about what the individuals who signed the Declaration of Independence really physically sacrificed for us. (All of the people who helped to establish this Country really) He went over specific events and specific people and the unimaginable things that were done to them and to their families as a scare tactic from the enemy to keep people from standing up to them. Until this class, I feel like it may have just been something that I said, that people sacrificed for me to be free. Now I cannot even say it without getting emotional. I am so thankful for our troops, and for all of the many men and women who have sacrificed their lives and their time now and in the past for this wonderful Country.
And because I really do not want to get too emotional, and I want to make this short and sweet...I will finish by wishing you all a happy holiday and by saying
God bless the USA!

You are so rad, I loved this post. You said it perfectly - God Bless the USA!!
Thanks so much for this post Whitney. As the sister of a marine and Vet of the War in Iraq, I get very emotional when people talk about the troops and what they are doing now and have done in the past for our country. I too am so grateful for what we have.
We're pretty lucky to live in this country, that's for sure! It's nice to have a day to really focus on that and all those who make our lives in this country free and blessed. Thanks for sharing!
The class sounds fascinating. I would love to know more about it...you know how we are supposed to have learned all that in Elementary and Jr. High but we really didn't care then? I have been watching the History Channel lately and have been fascinated by it. Maybe I need another elective at school? Or maybe not and just watch documentaries. Thank you for your patriotism today!
