Gingerbread house?

For Christmas this year Ryan's sister Jennifer sent us a gingerbread house. The boys were super excited to put it together, especially because you could see all of the candy inside the box. Paxton asked me every day if it was time to put the house together but I wanted to wait for Sunday so that I could be off work.
Sunday finally came. Probably the first Sunday I can remember where Paxton wasn't dressed first thing in the morning to go to church because he had something else on his mind.It started off pretty well. We used the icing to put the house together. The icing was pretty messy and I am pretty sure that the icing given in the box, is not the same icing they use to decorate the one ON the box! It was impossible-but we worked with it.
Gauge quickly joined us. I didn't notice at first but he added a really shiny couple of candies to the side of the house that he and I were on. When I started paying attention to him I realized how smart he was, he licked them and then he added them to the house. Brilliant! Now they would stick for sure!and then, they started to slide off the house. The whole side that Guage and I were on had candies laying at the bottom because they continued to slide off. Paxton's side looked great until...the roof started to slide...
Ryan jumped in and started trying to put pixie stick supports up to hold the house
it didn't work.
nothing we did would work. The boys thought it was hilarious!
Paxton kept yelling for us to do something, icing was EVERYWHERE! We laughed our heads off while we tried to save the house. Gauge ate the candies on top to help with the weight issue as fast as he could
we used more icing, more decorations
finally, we decided the house would have to have a false front and we used one side to lay flat on the top.
That's when Gauge went in to take a huge bite out of it.
then we all did-it smelled delicious!
finally, at the end, the gingerbread house had had enough.
Just because it was not a "house" anymore doesn't mean we're not proud of it. We put it in a huge pile and cleaned up the extra icing and candy. Then Paxton and Ryan took it to the living room to put it on display. All the while Paxton giggled because it was so funny "it's not even a house!"

Thank you Jennifer! We had a GREAT time, one that hopefully the boys won't forget!

WOW!!!!!!! I'm so glad that you all made the best of an very amusing situation. I had imagined something different for you, but it looks like it did what it was supposed to, bring the family together!!!:)))) How did the pillowcases work out for the boys? Did they like them? I was kind of worried the fabric was too rough, it is cute though.

We absolutely love them. I was actually looking for some fabric that I liked to try to do something similar. This is WAY better! Paxton has slept on his every night-no complaints! I think its because he is dreaming of sugar plums! Thanks again!
