Okay, I don't mean to post anything scary, but I have to vent a little bit about this. Way back when I worked at the hospital, grave yard shift, there were times when it was so slow we would tell ghost stories in the middle of the night. Now if you want scary, try sitting in a huge empty hospital with the lights off when they are telling you about weird patient stuff in the psych ward! Stories would also be told about babysitting in the middle of the night and every night the washer and dryer would turn on at the exact same time. There were stories told about hearing or knowing that someone was walking past them when they woke up in the middle of the night and no one was there...nothing got to me. HOG WASH! I am pretty good at reality checking myself and finding explanations. Well, I am not that tough, the psych ward stuff scared me to death but things turning on, YEAH RIGHT!
The other night I was downstairs in our computer room by myself...typing away on the computer. Ryan had gone upstairs to check on the boys. Did I mention I was by myself?
All of a sudden, the TV behind me turned on. CHILLS up and down my spine! I didn't move! All that could be heard was static from the TV. I knew that no one was there, so I sat there and told myself what I knew that it was, a power surge and that I would be fine. In fact, to prove to myself that nothing was wrong I MADE myself sit there and continue what I was doing while I listened to the eerie static. That was fine right...although I don't know WHAT was keeping Ryan for so long while I proved to myself I was tough and desperately needed my knight in shining armor to come sit with me!
Then, seriously about 20 minutes later, I had not even looked behind me or even touched the TV...and it turned off!! I was out of there man!!! I can explain it as a power surge when the TV turns on, but what the heck is going on when it turns off?!!

WHIT!! Ok, here I sit at my computer in my study which is totally dark except the light from the computer screen (Yeah, I'm the one who hates scary stuff), and I click on your Blog and read this spooky story!! Oh my gosh, you poor thing! I'm sure you're right, it was a power surge...right? BOO! Call me next time you're scared - I can't guarantee I'll be your Knight in shining armor, I'll be more like your...wimpy friend hiding in the corner.
I think Ryan was hiding somewhere with a remote! Our channels used to change by themselves until we figured out that one of our neighbors was on the same satelite frequency and we were changing eachother's channels.
Rach, do you have a blog your not telling me about? I want it!!
Whitney, I don’t want to scare you but what you experienced is a classic haunting phenomenon. In fact many experts suggest that the static from the TV is actually “white noise,” and that the TV is one of the most commonly used mediums through which spirits (usually the angry sort) try to communicate with the living. Next time this happens try asking questions to find out who’s trying to contact you, and then turn up the volume to listen for anything coming back through the static. Ok, I’m totally messing with you! Just locate the remote next time and you’ll be able to narrow down the cause.
No, I don't have a blog. If anything happened in my life that was worth posting on a blog, I would start one. You'll be the first to know when I do.
